Natore: Police recovered the skeleton of a schoolgirl from a sugarcane field near her house at Banbelgharia area of Sadar upazila in Natore on Wednesday afternoon.

The victim, identified as Sompa Khatun, a class VI student and daughter of Shahidul Islam of the area, went missing five months ago.

Biplob Bijoy Talukdar, superintendent of police, said Sompa went missing from her village on 29 May.

Later, police arrested three people in a case filed earlier by the victim’s mother Nasima Begum with Sadar Police Station in this connection, but could not glean any clue from them.

On Wednesday afternoon, police recovered her head and bones from a sugarcane field at Kamargari Bil, following the direction of an anonymous letter sent to the family members.

The law enforcers detained the owner of the sugarcane field, Shahid, and his mother for hiding information in this regard, he said.

DNA test will be conducted for proper identification of the recovered skeleton, the SP added.
